GML takes part in procedural hearing in The Hague
On 19 June 2018, GML, the former Yukos majority shareholders, took part in a procedural hearing at The Hague Court of Appeal. This was part of the ongoing Dutch set-aside proceedings in which GML aims to reinstate the Arbitral Awards of 2014.
The 2014 Awards are the result of a decade-long independent arbitration in The Hague, which ruled unanimously that Yukos Oil Company was unlawfully expropriated by the Kremlin. The Arbitral Tribunal awarded compensation of over $50 billion to the former Yukos majority shareholders.
Dutch Parliament calls for European Magnitsky Act
The Dutch Parliament has passed a resolution which calls on its government to push for a European Magnitsky Act. Inspired by the original US Magnitsky Act of 2012, the law would punish human-rights abusers by freezing their assets and denying them travel visas.
Dutch intelligence uncovered Russian interference in US elections
The Dutch intelligence agency, AIVD, provided the FBI with crucial information about Russian interference in the US elections. On 25 January 2018, Dutch media, de Volkskrant and Nieuwsuur, revealed how the AIVD penetrated the Kremlin's team of hackers, Cozy Bear, as the Russians infiltrated the White House, State Department and Democratic National Committee.
